Finnish National Technology Programs Portal On The Teamware Pl@za Platform (28.2.2001)

The brand new Internet portal akseli.tekes.fi gathers together all the national technology programs financed by Tekes, the National Technology Agency in Finland. The solution built on the Teamware Pl@za platform has been implemented by Teamware Solution Center Decode.

With the aim of simplifying and unifying communication and administration of the national technology programs, Tekes wanted to standardize the Web sites of individual programs and bring them under one Internet portal. In the spring 2000 Teamware Solution Center Decode was chosen to build the portal on the Teamware Pl@za platform.

"The Repeatable Solutions and component approach offered by Teamware suited our needs best. This way the enhancements to the software don't need to be tailored for us, but we automatically benefit from the ongoing product development", emphasized Mika Lautanala, the Manager responsible for the technology programs in Tekes.

The goal was to offer program co-ordinators, responsible for the contents of the sites, a ready-made and easy-to-use communications solution by creating a Web site that would be easy to update and used both in external and internal communication.

"Through the use of predefined forms and templates the maintenance of Teamware Pl@za based Web sites is made extremely easy and it can also be done by persons with no technical expertise, if they are given administrator rights to the site. Advanced access control and user rights guarantee that certain services can be provided only for a restricted group of users", said Mika Lautanala.

The public Web site consists of the general technology program pages and home pages of the individual programs. The site is divided into entities according to different fields of technology and the status of the programs. The home pages of each program are built on the same structure and therefore it is easy to find the required information.

From the public site it is possible to move to the 'closed areas' protected by passwords. The steering group of each program has access to these sections where they are able to follow the progress of the project, save their own documents and take part in the online discussions.

The brand new portal was taken into test use in the end of the year 2000. During 2001 all the technology programs' (appr. 50) Web sites are migrated under the portal. In connection with the launch of new programs the site owners will be educated to use the system by Teamware Solution Center Decode. The system is hosted on a Teamware server.

The portal can be found at http://akseli.tekes.fi.
