Teamware Solution Center Decode Launches A New SMS Web Updating Service (14.11.2000)

The Finnish Teamware Solution Center, Decode, today launched a brand new service aimed at companies and associations. By using the new service a user can update www sites with a standard GSM telephone. The service developed in Finland completes the selection of Decode’s mobile services.

- The updating of Web sites has never been easier. Now even those with no knowledge of HTML-language or Internet-technology can update Web sites. By sending an SMS message to the certain GSM number the user can change the contents of a site in real time, said Timo Hj Laaksonen, Managing Director, Teamware Solution Center, Decode.

According to Laaksonen, the potential users of the service are companies, associations, sports clubs and businessmen on the move.

- Now the different changes in schedules or the progress of a meeting or a sporting event can be communicated extremely effectively to the users of a Web service without Web connection or the help of a Web administrator. This can be done even from a taxi or an airport, he told.

A predefined section of the Web site can be updated by SMS messages. The security of the communication is guaranteed by the password verification. Improved security is gained by limiting the number of users who are allowed to update a certain site: the service recognizes the number the SMS message is sent from and only recognized users can alter the contents of the site.

When starting to update the site, the user enters a four-character password before writing the actual message. The headlines can easily be separated from the rest of the wording. Several SMS-messages can be sent in a row and the system will automatically integrate them into one. Therefore the restricted length of a single message will not limit the length of the update.

The service launched today completes the set of Teamware Pl@za’s mobile services. Decode’s Internet customers can obtain the service as such or as a part of the wireless service package. By using Decode’s WAP-Proxy that automatically translates the HTML into WML format, the users are able to access Internet pages with a WAP device.

- The earlier mobile applications implemented by Decode have consisted mainly of SMS-messages sent to mobile phones via the Web, but now it is possible to manage a total Web site with SMS-messages, Laaksonen emphasizes.

Teamware Solution Center Decode has implemented the mobile news service of MTV3, the most popular Finnish TV-channel, by using Teamware Pl@za technology (www.mtv3.fi/sanomat).
