Teamware Announces
Teamware Office 5.3 for Linux Edition 3
(9.1.2001)
Ideally suited for small
and medium-sized companies
Teamware Group,
a subsidiary of Fujitsu Limited, today announced the availability
of Edition 3 of its popular ready-to-run groupware product, Teamware
Office 5.3 for Linux, with customizable user interface and state-of-the-art
communications features. The new Edition introduces some major improvements
that make the groupware even more suitable for small and medium-sized
companies.
According to
IDC, small businesses represent 48 percent of all Linux server-based
installations. In order to better target this small business market,
Teamware is launching a 25 user license package to be sold additionally
to the current 100 user package.
"In 1999
there were 1.3 million new Linux server installations by companies
with 100 employees or less. With the new 25 user pack Teamware Office
for Linux can be offered for these companies in an extremely attractive
price", said Colin Sydes, Product Manager for Teamware
Office for Linux.
The famous Teamware
Office groupware suite has been in the market since 1989 and was
ported to Linux platform in spring 2000. The product is available
with 25 and 100 built-in user accounts with prices of USD 350 and
USD 1000. It can be purchased online through the Teamware web site
at www.teamware.com/linux.
Also a free 90-day evaluation version can be downloaded at the site.
One of the major
enhancements of Edition 3 is the NNTP support, which enables the
integration of the Teamware Forum discussion groups with the Internet
news groups using NNTP-protocol. This makes it possible to include
news groups in the Forum structure and access Teamware Forum from
the Internet with any NNTP news reader.
The Teamware
Office for Linux Mail server internally stores the complete MIME
information of Internet mail messages. Based on user feedback, additional
session control and other web interface details have been improved
to further ease the use of the software.
Also with the
new Edition it is possible to distribute the Teamware Office services
across application servers. Therefore it now allows up to 5000 users
on a single site.
In addition
to Caldera Open Linux, Red Hat Linux, Turbo Linux, SuSE and Red
Flag, also Linux Mandrake is now an officially supported distributor
of the Teamware Office for Linux.
