More
than 13 000 users in thirty city departments
City of Helsinki Outsourced its Teamware Office System
City of Helsinki
has outsourced the maintenance and administration of its Teamware
Office system for ICL Invia Oyj. The newly launched ASP-service
covers approximately 13 000 users in thirty city departments.
City of Helsinki
has been using Teamware Office since early 1990's. Prior to the
ASP agreement with ICL, the different city departments took care
of their own systems through some sixty mail servers located all
around the city area. However, the maintenance and administration
of the decentralized system was extremely tricky. Because of several
interfaces, different solutions and miscellaneous hardware the system
was highly vulnerable.
In connection
with the agreement all servers were replaced by new ones and relocated
in ICL's hosting premises.
"Centralized and integrated solution has increased the reliability
of the system remarkably. Also mobile services are now available
for more people. Today e-mail is critical for us and we have to
be able to rely on it 24 hours a day", states IT-manager Tuomo
Karakorpi from the city of Helsinki.
"Once well-considered
and adapted to its purposes outsourcing suits the city's working
principles well. Now we can also manage and calculate the costs
better than before", says Karakorpi.
Together with
the ASP-project the City of Helsinki upgraded its system into the
Teamware Office 5.3 version. "We decided that there was no
reason to change the perfectly good system. We have been satisfied
with Teamware and the users are familiar with it".
